31 January is the last day to register for the March 2012 CAIA exams. We would like to remind you not to forget this important step in the process.
Brief instructions on registering for the CAIA exam are below.
1. Create an account on the CAIA website and fill out the exam registration form.
2. Sign the Candidate Agreement.
3. Purchase an exam.

The pass rates for the September 2011 CAIA exams are provided below.
- Level I - 74%
- Level II - 59%
The pass rates for both Level I and Level II are up from the March 2011 exam. For the March exam, it was 71% for Level I and 58% for Level II.
The CAIA Level II exam results have been released. Congratulations to all those who successfully completed their exams. Since last evening, our Level II clients have been emailing us the good news of their successes. We are very pleased to hear from them, and look forward to hearing from many others.
What’s next for Level II candidates?
- Candidates who passed Level II - you can now complete the process of becoming CAIA members. All you have to do is sign the candidate agreement and pay your annual membership dues. We look forward to seeing new CAIA members at CAIA Chapter gatherings.
- Candidates who were not successful - we understand that sometimes work committments prevent you from being able to devote sufficient time to your study program. For this reason, we provide our UpperMark Assurance, which gives a significant discount off Suite packages for qualified clients who defer or retake their CAIA exams. We are pleased to announce that we began shipping UpperMark study materials for the CAIA Level I exam this week. Many of our international clients will have their study packages as early as Monday!

Now what’s the next step for candidates?

- You can now begin preparing your study program for your Level II exam.
- The Level II exam is different in content and structure than the Level I exam. There is further concentration in alternative investments, and the exam structure has constructed-response (essay-type) questions, as well as multiple-choice questions.

The March 2012 CAIA exam period officially opened today, and registration for the exam is now open. Below please find a list of important CAIA exam dates.
- 14 November 2011 – early registration closes.
- 31 January 2012 – standard registration closes.
- 8-21 March 2012 – Level I CAIA exam period.
- 1-14 March 2012 – Level II CAIA exam period.
Candidates who register in the early registration period receive a 10% discount.
The CAIA Association also released its Study Guides for the upcoming exams today. Minor changes have been made to the Level I curriculum and some of the Level II curriculum readings have been changed for this exam season. We will update you with more information shortly. We look forward to working with you toward your successful completion of your CAIA exam.
